Should I Consider Zoom Teeth Whitening?

Would you like a brighter smile? Zoom Teeth Whitening is our most popular teeth whitening solution, offering a brighter smile in around 90 minutes in the hygienist’s chair, without the hassle of at-home whitening. Our patients all have great things to say about their experience - but how can you tell if it’s right for you?

Treatment Planning

Before deciding whether Zoom in-surgery teeth whitening is the right solution for you, our hygienists will conduct a thorough examination of your teeth and gums to ensure proper oral health, as well as talking with you about your oral hygiene and lifestyle to determine if you will benefit from the treatment. We will also take note of existing dental work, such as fillings, crowns or veneers as these will not respond to traditional whitening agents.

We may also recommend alternative or additional cosmetic dental procedures, such as veneers or composite bonding, dependent on your overall goals for changing your smile.

The Procedure

The procedure itself takes around 60-90 minutes, but we recommend you visit us for regular cleaning in advance of the session to ensure the best results. The procedure begins with some preparation to protect the lips and gums, leaving the teeth exposed. Next, we will apply Zoom hydrogen peroxide whitening gel, which works together with the Zoom light to penetrate the teeth and break up any stains or discolouration.

The light-activated gel remains in place for four sessions of 15 minutes, and during this time you can lie back, relax and let the Zoom light work its magic!

Other Considerations

The procedure itself does not hurt, but mild sensitivity during treatment may occur in some cases, especially if you know that you have sensitive teeth. If this is the case, ask us for some anti-sensitivity gels or toothpastes prior to treatment to lessen the sensation.

As with other whitening treatments, Zoom is not recommended for children or for pregnant or lactating women.

Finally, it is important to remember that without proper aftercare and cleaning, your teeth whitening may not last as long as it should. Avoiding items like coffee, fizzy drinks, soy sauce, red and white wine can help you to maintain your newly whitened teeth, as well as brushing your teeth effectively and having regular professional cleanings.
